If you are looking at this website, you most likely remember when menopause was referred to as "change of life". Unfortunately for many women, and for much of society, this phrase was interpreted as "end of life", a time during which a sense of loss and an unquestioning acceptance of being "less" than we once were permeated women's lives. The current, accepted use of "menopause" to describe this time of bodily changes, when examined closely, can actually be more positive, offering more hope for mid-life women. The term is menopause. Rather than an "end", this PAUSE denotes a stop along the way in how women perceive and experience themselves and those around them. It is during that "pause" that women have the opportunity to use the wisdom gained through experience to reflect upon and re-evaluate many aspects of their lives.
Many of the areas women pause to reflect upon and examine are deeply personal and internal. Some women may choose to re-evaluate , renew or rediscover their personal spirituality. Others may take a second look at their close relationships, be it with spouses, children or friends. Others may re-examine how they nurture their bodies and spirits. Still others will journey toward finding a new passion in life or resume dedicating themselves to what was once a passion earlier in their lives.
The workshops offered by WomensVoices are designed to provide an environment which offers information, encourages discussion and validation by other women. Specifically, they offer an opportunity to "pause", reflect, re-evaluate and renew some of the most essential aspects of the lives of today's mid-life woman. The opportunity for self-discovery and personal growth goes beyond each workshop in that a bibliography pertaining to the particular topic discussed is provided to each attendee. Whether you are "peri"meno PAUSE, menoPAUSING, or post meno PAUSE, the center is dedicated to the woman you are today.
