During the 5 week, 90 minute workshop, women are given writing “prompts”. These are words, phrases or sentences from which each member writes an essay or personal story. Some of the writing takes place during the session. Members are also given prompts to work on out of group. The purpose of this workshop is to encourage women to use their “voice” through the written word. Each member is required to share her writing with the other members of the group. All members provide feedback to all of the writings presented. The intention is to have every woman’s voice and experience heard and validated in a nurturing, empowering and nonjudgmental environment. Workshops Created Specifically for Midlife Women, Ages 45 to 60

All of the workshops listed above ( Intuitive Writing I,II,III; Exploring Women’s Friendships; Self Nurturing; Awakening Feminine Spirituality) are offered with a specific focus on how the topics in each workshop are relevant, and have renewed meaning etc. in the lives of midlife women. See the introduction below for an explanation of how and why these topics are especially relevant to midlife women.

Introduction to Workshops Specifically Designed for Midlife Women

If you are a woman in this age group, you most likely remember when menopause was referred to as “change of life”. Unfortunately for many women, and for much of society, this phrase was interpreted as “end of life”, a time during which a sense of loss and unquestioning acceptance of being “less” than we once were permeated women’s lives. The current, accepted use of “menopause” to describe this time of bodily changes, when examined closely, can actually be more positive, offering hope for midlife women. Rather than an “end”, this PAUSE denotes a stop along the way in how women perceive and experience themselves and those around them. It is during that “pause” that women have the opportunity to use the wisdom gained through experience to reflect upon and re-evaluate many aspects of their lives.

Many of the areas women pause to reflect upon and examine are deeply personal and internal. Some women may choose to re-evaluate, renew or rediscover their personal spirituality. Others may take a second look at their close relationships, be it with spouses, children or friends. Others may re-examine how they nurture their bodies and spirits. Still others will journey toward finding a new passion in life or resume dedicating themselves to what was once a passion earlier in their lives.

These workshops are designed to address issues particular to this group of women. They offer information, and encourage discussion and validation by other women. Specifically, they offer an opportunity to “pause”, reflect, re-evaluate and renew some of the most essential aspects of this life stage. Whether you are in “peri”meno PAUSE, menoPAUSING, or post menopause, these workshops are dedicated to the woman you are today.

Sage Women: Legacy Writing Workshop for Women over 60

This is a group for women age 60 and over. There are 6 two hour sessions, most often scheduled twice a month. During these sessions, group members will be given writing “prompts”- questions that will guide them in writing the stories of their lives. Women in this age group have many rich memories, experiences and wisdom to offer. This workshop provides an opportunity to share these aspects of their lives, first with other women in the group and hopefully later as a gift of a legacy for future generations. The workshop gives a “voice” to the history of women not found in any textbook. Each week, the members will be asked to share their writing with the group. There is no criticism of writing style, grammar etc.- just an opportunity to tell their stories in a safe and validating environment
